THE SCIENCE OF CELLUMA
The science behind every session.
Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses specific wavelengths of light to influence cellular activity.

How light becomes a biological response.
Red and near-infrared light can influence mitochondrial activity, the production of ATP (the energy cells use) and cellular signalling. [1]
What is photobiomodulation?
LED light therapy and red light therapy are common names for light-based treatments. The scientific process behind Celluma is photobiomodulation (PBM): specific wavelengths of light interact with cells and influence biological activity. LED describes the light source, while red refers to one part of the light spectrum. Celluma uses selected combinations of blue, red and near-infrared light in preset programmes for different treatment goals. [2]

THE SCIENCE OF EFFECTIVE LIGHT THERAPY
LED light therapy devices must be built on scientific principles to be effective.
Otherwise, they are just lights, not treatments.

TREATMENT PROTOCOL
30minutes
Many Celluma treatment programmes
Why 30 minutes?
Many Celluma programmes use a 30-minute cycle because light output and exposure time are designed together to deliver a planned dose. Complete the programme specified for your model and treatment goal. [1]
More intense light over a shorter period does not automatically produce a better or faster response.
Why can’t the treatment simply be faster?
Treatment time is an essential part of delivering the right light dose. Celluma’s 30-minute programmes combine controlled light output with a defined exposure time, so the treatment area receives the dose the programme is designed to deliver. [1]
Red and near-infrared light work at the cellular level through a process called photobiomodulation. This can stimulate mitochondrial activity, increase the production of ATP—the energy cells use—and influence cellular signalling. [2] [3]
These biological responses depend on how the light is delivered. Increasing the intensity to shorten a session does not necessarily produce the same response, even when the total amount of light energy is similar. A higher intensity does not automatically mean a better or faster result. [4]
Photobiomodulation research has also demonstrated a biphasic dose response: increasing the dose beyond an effective range can reduce the beneficial response. This is why the balance between light output and treatment duration matters. [5]
Celluma’s programmed treatment time brings these principles into a simple, consistent routine. Select the appropriate mode, position the device as directed and complete the full programme recommended for your model and treatment.

Is red light therapy the same as LED light therapy?
LED light therapy and red light therapy are common names for light-based treatments. The scientific process behind Celluma is photobiomodulation (PBM): specific wavelengths of light interact with cells and influence biological activity. LED describes the light source, while red refers to one part of the light spectrum. Do I choose individual colours or wavelengths?
Choose a treatment mode available on your Celluma device. Its preset programme manages wavelength combinations and light delivery, so you can follow a clear, repeatable routine.
Does a brighter light mean a better treatment?
Brightness alone does not describe treatment performance. Wavelength, delivered dose, positioning and time all matter. Celluma’s programmes are designed to bring those factors together for their intended application.
